Upcoming Virtual Professional Development Opportunities

Creating a Genius Hour in Your Classroom w/ Kimberly Eckert, 2018 Louisiana State Teacher of the Year

Sept. 19th, 5:30 CDT; 6:30 EST ($20); TICKETS & REGISTRATION

Genius hour has transformed Kimberly's classroom, sparking motivation and enthusiasm in even the most disengaged students. But it hasn't always been easy. Genius hour is about encouraging student interests in a rigorous way, allowing students to create projects around what they are passionate about while diving deep into formal academic standards in far more authentic ways than could be possible in a 'normal' classroom.

Join Kimberly on Sept. 19th to learn more about how she's implemented Genius Hour and what mistakes she's learned from.

Participants will also receive a host of resources that Kimberly uses in her own classroom that will help assist you in everything from planning to assessment.

How We're Raising the Bar w/ Virtual PD

Exceptional Talent

All of our professional development leaders have been recognized as truly exceptional in their field. Just in the Fall of 2018 we have two State Teachers of the Year and a teaching artist who has led a group of students to win the International Brave New Voices competition and himself has won the International World Poetry Slam Competition. We also empower our PD leaders to create sessions around what they are passionate about. While traditional webinars focus on the content to be communicated, we believe focusing on the talent can truly take the virtual experience to the next level.

Interactive Experience

While we focus on talent, our true hope is that participants will learn just as much from each other as they do from the presenter. Our virtual PDs take advantage of new features in online meeting software that allow participants to breakout into small groups for collaborative discussion. We also allow participants to engage in live polls and interact via shared google docs. This is not the traditional online session that is built around narrating over a powerpoint. These are truly virtual experiences complete with meaningful participant-to-participant dialogue and reflection.

Production Value

We know that aesthetics matter. It's hard to stay engaged with a presentation that has low production value. That's why we pay special attention to the audio and visual aspects of our productions using professional quality equipment. No more shadowy presenters using the built-in mic on their laptop for crackly results. All of our sessions are streamed in HD with quality lighting and sound.

Financial Accessibility

Most in-person professional development sessions cost over $150 to register. Educators who wish to attend a conference can easily spend over $1,000 between travel, registration, and accommodation. Even other online classes often cost at least $75. At CanopyEd we are committed to offering high-quality experiences at accessible prices. That's why registration for our events will always be set between $20 & $30 dollars.
